The UK’s equality watchdog said on 7 November 2025 that it has asked McDonald’s to do more to protect its staff from sexual harassment after ‘serious allegations’ emerged following an initial deal with the fast-food giant.
The Equality and Human Rights Commission announced that it had extended a legal agreement that McDonald’s first agreed to in February 2023 and put in place a ‘strengthened action plan’ to ensure the company effectively prevents sexual harassment.
Under the updated plan, McDonald’s must regularly inspect restaurants, improve its risk assessments and survey staff quarterly. Complaints against managers must be investigated outside its restaurants and McDonald’s must get external experts to design a safeguarding plan to roll out across all its sites.
